If you havesix or more,the cost of your prescriptioncan vary from $2.90 to $3.80 per prescription. That’s a lot for a drug like Cialis, which treatserectile dysfunction, but with thecostincreasing, it’s no surprise that many drugmakers are moving to offer cheaper options.
Last week, Eli Lilly’s Cialis, which treats ED, was approved by the FDA for that condition. But in its latest move, the maker of generic versions of the drug, said that it would offer a prescription discount program.
“For people who are uninsured, insurance plays a big part in their cost,” says David Burch, president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy in New Jersey. “It helps cover the cost of the medication and it helps with deductibles.”
That’s good news for Lilly, which had a $2.90 program in place in July 2015, and has been selling its Cialis in the U. S. since early September. Its generic version, called Tadalafil, is also available, but Lilly hasn’t decided if it can continue that program.
Lilly’s Cialis currently offers a prescription discount to individuals who have insurance. If they don’t, the manufacturer would not have to pay for the prescription.
So Lilly has decided to offer a generic version of Cialis for about $3.80 per prescription. That price is lower than the cost of the brand-name drug for erectile dysfunction, or impotence, which is the most common form of ED. But the Cialis offer a 90-day supply, and many people still get a 90-day supply if they do not have insurance. And that can cover the cost of the medication as well as the cost of the prescription.
Cialis can also cost around $25 for a month’s supply, but it’s not available in generic form. Lilly estimates that as many as 10 million people in the U. use Cialis for the first time in their lives. So while many Cialis users may not realize it, it’s a huge savings.
Drugmakers are exploring alternatives to CialisIf you are uninsured, you may be able to find a cheaper alternative to Cialis, but you’ll have to pay for it themselves, says, a professor of pharmacy at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in Seattle. That could include generic versions of Cialis.
“It’s still a big deal,” says Burch. “But they’re still a much cheaper option.”
That’s good news for Lilly, which has a 90-day supply of its Cialis. If you or a loved one has been prescribed Cialis for ED for the past six months, you can find it at a lower price. But if you want to save money, you may be able to find a cheaper alternative.
“If you’re uninsured, you don’t have to pay the full cost,” Burch says. “It’s just cheaper.”

• Any alpha-blocker medicines e.g. doxazosin (Cardura), alfuzosin (Xatral), tamsulosin, terazosin, or Flomax, that you can buy in the pharmacy. (These medicines may be used to treat prostate problems or high blood pressure).
• Isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, or use a GTN spray or tablets
for chest pain or use Rectogesic ointment?
• Nicorandil (Ikorel), used to treat angina
• Cimetidine, used to treat stomach or duodenal (peptic) ulcers
• Theophylline, used to treat asthma
• Antibiotics:- Clarithromycin, Erythromycin and Telithromycin
• Anti-fungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole
• Seizure medication:- carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone
• Heart or blood pressure medication:- disopyramide, amiodarone, quinidine and procainamide
• Anti-viral medication:- telaprevir, atazanavir, retonavir, indinavir, saquinavir and cobicistat
• Recreational drugs:- amyl nitrate (poppers)
